DE HOGE BLEKKER
The Hoge Blekker (21.25 ha.) is the focal point of our coastline and also owes its name to it: at 33 metres, it is the highest dune in the entire coastal strip. It was a permanent lighthouse for sailors who could see its white crown ("bleach" in the local dialect) from afar. The Hoge Blekker is a solid drifting dune that has travelled a good distance over the years. Since the 16th century it has moved steadily eastwards, covering more than a kilometre. It was located right on the site of Ten Duinen Abbey around 1700. At the end of the 19th century, its wanderlust began to be curbed by planting helmet and creeping willows.

VEURNE
Veurne grew up around a fortress built to defend itself against the Normans at the end of the 9th century. It later became one of the best fortified places in the county of Flanders. It is a picturesque town that is well worth a visit.
DE WESTHOEK
In contrast to other regions, the Westhoek is a conglomeration of landscapes and inhabitants that have in common that they are extremely different.
Fishermen by the sea, farmers in De Moeren, city dwellers in the centre. Sea and hills, forests and ponds, industry and handicrafts, art and devotion, gastronomy and farm produce, you will find all of this in well-balanced portions so that you never feel indigestion. Even the most demanding tourist is never more than an hour away from fulfilling his wishes in the Westhoek. If the weather by the sea is not good, you will soon forget about the weather in the Yser valley or Heuvelland.
